Pest Control in Rockton

Rockton at a glance

Rockton is a village in Winnebago County in the Rock River Valley, with 7,863 people at the 2020 census and about 5.7 square miles of land and water.

What that means for pests

Rockton sits where the river valley meets farmland and woods, so homes near the water see mosquitoes, while those near the fields see mice in the fall. Older homes near the village center have stone or block foundations with gaps that rodents and insects find easily. See general pest control. Older foundations near the village center need regular checks for new cracks after each winter's freeze and thaw.

Macktown and Hononegah

Stephen Mack Jr. was the first white settler in the area, married to Hononegah, a respected Native American woman. His outpost became Macktown, while William Talcott settled across the river in what is now Rockton. In 1851 the bridge between Macktown and Rockton washed away. The river still shapes daily life, with parks, boat launches and wooded banks close to many homes.

A river village

Today Rockton is known for its historic downtown and riverside parks. Riverside homes deal with damp basements and crawl spaces, which attract centipedes, spiders and silverfish, as well as carpenter ants in softened wood. Run a dehumidifier in damp basements, fix leaks, and keep mulch and firewood away from the foundation. For wasp nests under eaves and decks in late summer, ask about treatment; see general pest control.
