Pest Control in Machesney Park

Machesney Park at a glance

Machesney Park is a village in Winnebago County north of Loves Park, with 22,950 people at the 2020 census and about 13 square miles of land and water.

What that means for pests

Much of the village was built in the decades after the Second World War, with ranch homes, basements and big backyards. Mature trees and woodpiles near those homes draw carpenter ants, and older window frames and siding give boxelder bugs and lady beetles easy ways in each fall. See spiders and fall invaders. Homes with sheds, wood piles and dense shrubs near the house give rodents places to hide close to the foundation.

Named for an airport

Machesney Park takes its name from Machesney Airport, a rural airfield founded in the 1920s by barnstorming aviator Fred "Mac" Machesney, who trained more than 4,000 pilots there. It served as Rockford's main airport until the 1950s and later closed; Machesney Mall now stands on the site. Machesney Mall and the shopping areas along North Second Street bring restaurants and stores close to many neighborhoods.

Along the Rock River

The village lies along the Rock River, and homes near the water and the forest preserves see more mosquitoes and ticks in summer. Clear standing water from gutters, buckets and toys every week, keep grass short near the edges of the yard, and check children and pets for ticks after time outdoors. For yards that need treatment through the season, see mosquitoes and ticks.
